Family Mediation with Alex Tillson
My mediation practice is focused primarily on family issues, including divorce, custody, parenting plans and more. I work with parties all over Oregon. Many cases involve court paperwork which my office can prepare for you if you so desire. My goal is to help both sides work towards something that meets their needs and that they can feel good signing off on. Often the court process tells people what to do or requires certain things. Mediation, by contrast, is a process in which you can identify your needs and interests and can make sure to protect what is most important to you.
Many people tell me that they want to "do it right" and that they just want things "to be fair" when it comes to divorce or handling their kids when they separate. If that is your goal, then I am happy to help. Mediation ExperienceI am an experienced mediator with over 100 hours of training and hundreds of hours of experience as a mediator. I have also worked in a family law firm for most of a decade, and have handled all aspects of hundreds of family law cases, from divorce to custody issues, child support questions, parenting time schedules, parenting time modifications and more.

Mediation Process
The process of mediation can take a couple of different forms. Depending on the level of conflict, I either meet with both parties together or each one individually. If the parties meet together, then we start by setting an agenda, working through the needs and interests of each party, and work to find common ground between the two positions.
If we meet separately, then I take what I have learned from both parties and prepare a letter from one party to the other detailing where there is agreement and where the interests diverge. From there, the process is to start to bring the opposing sides together and build on the agreements that they do have. This can be done either in a series of individual meetings or in a group session.
The process is flexible, and I am happy to do whatever the parties need to work through their own unique situation.
Once an agreement is reached, I prepare either a formal mediated agreement for the parties to sign or, if they so desire and the case necessitates, my office prepares the legal documentation that will ultimately be signed by a Judge to make their case official.
